God's Rest
by Melissa Quintos
As we read through the history of Israel, it’s not hard to notice that rest is something God promised his people if they would just trust and obey him. Unfortunately, because of their disobedience and their unbelief, they were unable to enjoy and enter into rest.
“There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His”. (Hebrews 4:9-10)
Some of us, if not all of us, can probably relate to the Israelites at some point in our Christian walk. We too have been given the same invitation to enter into His rest.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 ESV)
But much like the Israelites, we get distracted with things that have less eternal value. We get easily caught up with things that don’t even bring glory to God or doing things he didn’t even ask us to do. Like how many times have we attempted to make something happen instead of letting go and trusting that God is in charge? How many times will we continue to lean on our own understating instead of trusting His leading?
If there’s one consistent thing the Lord has been highlighting to us all during this fast, it’s that we need Him more than ever! We can joyfully submit to His will because we know that his will is good, pleasing, and perfect. Saints, let us take advantage of this invitation and enter into his rest. God is faithful.
He wants to give us rest!
I recently came across this song and the words ministered to me. It has blessed me so much. I pray it blesses you as well!
