Heaven
by Keri Ortiz
Our four-year-old has all the questions about Heaven. Will so-and-so person be there? Can I fall out of Heaven? Do we use the potty in Heaven? Some questions are easier to answer than others.
I often think about people who want to “get into Heaven” but don’t really know the Father. They might be surprised at what heaven is like and how much time we will spend praising God there! Although I answer my son’s questions to the best of my ability, I must continue to point him to the reality that the Bible shares about the Kingdom. This is the beginning of our eternity and how we live now, matters!
The book of Revelation has always been a challenge for me to read, but in it we get glimpses of the BEAUTY that awaits.
Revelation 22:3-6 says:
There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the lamb will be in it, and his bond-servants will serve Him; they will see his face, and His name will be on their foreheads. And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever. And he said to me, “These words are faithful and true”; and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent His angel to show to His bond-servants the things that must take place. “And behold, I am coming quickly. Blessed is he who heeds the words of the prophecy of this book”.
Wow. Those of us who SERVE God with our lives on Earth will have JOY in Heaven because WE KNOW OUR MASTER. We get to reign with Him, but it also says we will still CONTINUE TO SERVE Him. Serving Him is a decision for eternity, it’s not just so we can enter INTO Heaven.
It’s overwhelming to think about a day when we will actually get to SEE HIS FACE! How can our response be anything other than worship and laying down our (even heavenly) bodies for Him?
There are several contributors to the Bible who refer to themselves as bond-servants (Paul, Simon Peter, Timothy, Jude) and we need to ask ourselves if we are bond-servants as well. I have no doubt that all who are reading this have proclaimed Jesus as Lord and Savior. We may have our allegiance with Him but is everything we do, done so that we can serve His interests and Kingdom?
I’m thankful for this body of believers and I’m praying for us, that we would continue to demonstrate Heaven on Earth, by serving the only One who is worthy of our lives and praise.
