Waiting on the Lord
by Lisette Jaimez
All of us are waiting for something. Maybe it’s a number of things. You can look at your situation or circumstance and know exactly what I mean.
It’s so difficult to wait. There’s an uncertainty about it, not knowing if what you’re waiting for will be given or granted by the Lord. What we do in the waiting matters so much.
It’s much like the process of anything that is hard that must be molded; be it gold, pottery, metals, etc. There’s so many steps that these materials must go through in order for them to become useful. The crucial part is the fire, that’s where the metals melt so that they can later take shape or set. For humans, being in the “fire” of waiting is the hardest part. God is shaping something in us while we wait, it’s crucial that we go through it in order for us to become that useful thing that he created us for. Sometimes the process doesn’t seem to make sense and our thoughts wreak havoc if we let them and we come out deformed and un-useful.
So while we wait we must say like King David did if we find ourselves feeling discouraged in the process, “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!” (Psalm 42:11 NLT)
And if you’re feeling alone while you wait, remind yourself that you’re not alone: “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4 NLT)
If you feel defeated while you’re waiting, remind yourself that it's in His presence that God whispers who we are becoming. The enemy may attack us according to our history, but God looks at us according to destiny.
When you find yourself tempted to give up hope, ““And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. “You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”” (Luke 11:9-13 NLT)
When you lose sight of what God's will is, “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NLT)
It’s so important that we take God at his word: “Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.”” (Luke 11:28 NLT)
So remember, when your thoughts are tempted to wonder about what God has said, “We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5 NLT)
Keep hope alive saints! He will answer in time.
