Preach the Gospel – A Fasting Devotional

There are SO many voices in our world today vying not only for our attention, but for our allegiance.    

These voices come from several different directions and are proclaiming all sorts of different messages.  If we’re not careful these voices, if we allow them, can shape mindsets that are destructive to our faith in Christ.  

Voices are powerful in that they proclaim ideologies that have the ability to transform people. Life or death is being transmitted to others through the power of the tongue (Prov 18:21). Between social media, T.V., and all the people we interact with on a daily basis imagine how many voices are speaking into our hearts!  No wonder Paul instructs us to renew our minds (Rom 12:2) and take captive every thought to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor 10:5).    

Among the many voices though, the Church has the opportunity to rise up with ONE VOICE and proclaim the message that all of the world needs to hear - the good news of Jesus Christ.  We have been entrusted with the gospel.  Will we use our voice to bring true hope to a spiritually and politically divided nation?  Will we advise people to give their allegiance to the only One that is worthy of it?  

The other day the Lord reminded me of John the Baptist being a voice in his generation.  Isaiah prophesied about him saying he would be ‘the voice of one crying in the wilderness, make ready the way of the Lord, make His paths straight.’

John’s generation, like ours, was filled with spiritual and political division.  But amidst all of that chaos, John’s focus was the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.  He chose to use his voice to prepare the way for Christ’s First Coming. I believe, in this hour, it is God’s desire for His church to be using their voice to prepare the way for His Second Coming.  

The harvest is plentiful!  People are hurting and looking for answers!  The gospel IS the answer! Let the voice of God through us trump (no pun intended) all the other voices that are competing for the allegiance of humanity! Give us courage and boldness in this time Lord to PREACH THE GOSPEL!
