Proclamation – A Fasting Devotional
From: Lyniece Oyola
The last couple of weeks we have read some very rich devotionals and last week we emphasized purity...this week it is on the proclamation of Jesus...also known as the good news!
One of my many life verses is Psalm 119:11 “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against You”
I truly desire for God’s word to sustain me and keep me from sinning against Him and others. This is a verse I meditate on daily, it is a whisper and a prayer filled with much desire. I have personalized these scriptures but they are not just for me, they are for everyone!
Psalm 40:10 “I have not hidden Your deliverance within my heart; I have spoken of Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your steadfast love and Your faithfulness from the great congregation”
I know this may sound paradoxical, but, God’s word is for us to conceal it in our hearts yet also not to conceal it in our hearts.
Last summer, I wore a t-shirt to the grocery store and on it was written the word Chosen, one of the workers made a rude comment and I brushed it off but it upset me and I really didn’t want to say anything to him after that (not the right response, by the way). However, after going around the store a few times as I spoke to the Lord and asked why I was so upset. The Lord said, show him kindness, forgiveness and share the truth. Of course, I said yes to Jesus and walked out of the store thinking God would open that opportunity another day. However, as I walked out there he was collecting the grocery carts and as I walked out, he apologized for his comment but was curious about what my shirt meant. I took the time to talk to him and told him about Jesus and how He is the Chosen One who chooses us. We talked about Jesus for 20 minutes.
Every time I see him, he remembers me and the conversation we had. He may not have said yes to Jesus in that moment but a seed of God’s truth and salvation was sown in His heart and God is faithful to water the seed.
Be faithful to share the good news of Jesus as often as you can!
Mark 16:15 and He said to them “go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” Amen
